Final exam: Better Business Writing
Ten questions, seven to pass. This tests whether the course's key ideas actually stuck — not trivia, the concepts that matter. Pass and you bank 100 XP.
1. What is 'The Ugly First Draft'?
Why: Timed, unedited raw material for later rewriting.
2. Maya's about page says 'we leverage cutting-edge solutions.' Per Module 1, what's the core problem?
Why: Zero concrete information; 'use' beats 'leverage' and specifics beat adjectives.
3. What's the difference between voice and tone?
Why: Voice stays consistent across everything you write — tone is how that same voice adjusts.
4. A newsletter email covers a product update, asks for referrals, and announces a price change. Nobody acts. What's the fix?
Why: Split it or pick the single action that matters.
5. What is 'The Cut List'?
Why: It's built from your own drafts — the fillers you personally overuse, not a generic list.
6. Why write the close before the rest of the piece?
Why: Every sentence either serves the close or gets cut.
7. Your social post's first line is buried under 'see more' and nobody taps. What failed?
Why: The first line is the only part guaranteed to be seen, and it didn't create the gap.
8. What does the read-aloud test catch?
Why: Awkward phrasing, repeated words, sentences that run out of breath.
9. What is 'The Voice Print'?
Why: Your rhythms, your words, your moves — built deliberately, not left to chance.
10. A web page gets traffic but no clicks on its three different CTAs. What's the structural fix?
Why: Three asks get zero action; pick the single action.
