Start here: how this course works
Five minutes now saves you hours later. Read this first, then dive into Module 1.
What you'll learn
This course teaches you to build an online community people actually participate in — not a dead forum or a silent chat group, but a place members return to weekly because it gives them something they can't get elsewhere. You'll choose the right kind of community and platform, seed it with founding members, create engagement rituals, set rules that keep it healthy, grow it sustainably, and keep it alive for years.
Seven modules, three lessons each, with quizzes and build brief prompts. About two hours total. No existing audience required — the course starts from zero and shows you how to recruit your first 50 members by hand.
How to use this course
Go in order. Module 1's choice — what kind of community you're building — shapes every later decision, from platform to rules to programming. The build brief prompts are where you design your community on paper: its purpose, its first 50 members, its weekly rituals. By the end, your brief is a launch plan.
Communities are built by behavior, not software. Resist the urge to skip to Module 2 (platform picking) — the platform matters less than the purpose. The courses' biggest failures come from people who chose a tool before they knew what they were building.
What you'll have at the end
A complete community blueprint: the concept, the platform, a founding-member recruitment plan, weekly rituals, rules and moderation guidelines, a growth strategy, and a long-term sustainability plan. Plus a build brief documenting it all — ready to execute or hand to someone who'll run it with you.
Honest note: communities are slow. The first 50 members take real work, and the first three months feel quiet. But a living community of 200 engaged members outperforms an audience of 20,000 passive followers on nearly every metric that matters — retention, referrals, revenue. This course builds the kind that lasts.
