Start with Social Media Marketing — Fluent Collective Courses

Followers scroll past. Members stay, buy, and bring friends. In seven modules you'll pick the right community format, recruit your founding members, install weekly rituals that run themselves, and build the moderation and growth systems that keep it alive for years.
What you'll learn
- Decide whether your business actually needs a community — and which kind — before you invest a minute.
- Seed your first 30–50 founding members and get them talking before you open the doors publicly.
- Install weekly engagement rituals that give members a reason to come back on their own.
- Write rules that keep the space safe for honest conversation, and grow deliberately once the culture is solid.
Is this for me?
Who is this course for?
Creators, coaches, and founders who already have people paying attention — an audience, a customer list, students, or clients.
What do I need before starting?
A handful of people who care about what you do, and a platform to host it — the course helps you pick, and free options work fine.
How long does it take?
Seven modules at 30–45 minutes each. But communities are slow cooking — expect 3–6 months to reach real momentum.

Start here
Module 0: How this course works
Five minutes of orientation before you begin — what you'll learn, how to use the course, and what you'll have at the end.

Module 1
Module 1: Why community, and which kind
Not every business needs a community — but the ones that do get retention, referrals, and insight no ad budget can buy. This module helps you decide honestly.

Module 2
Module 2: Picking your platform
The platform decision feels huge and matters less than you think — but each has real tradeoffs. This module walks through the options practically.

Module 3
Module 3: Seeding your founding members
Empty rooms kill communities. This module gets your first 30–50 members in the door and talking before you open publicly.

Module 4
Module 4: Engagement rituals and programming
Communities don't stay active by accident — they run on rituals. This module installs the weekly rhythms that give members reasons to return.

Module 5
Module 5: Rules and moderation
Good rules, enforced kindly and consistently, are what keep a community feeling safe enough for honest conversation. This module writes them and builds the team that upholds them.

Module 6
Module 6: Growth
Once the culture is solid, grow deliberately. This module covers the channels that bring the right members — and the gates that keep quality high.

Module 7
Module 7: Keeping it alive for years
Starting is exciting; sustaining is the skill. This module covers re-engagement, monetization paths, and evolving without losing what made it work.

Teardown: the fitness coach's 2,000-member ghost town
A fitness coach with a solid Instagram following started a free Facebook group two years ago. It now has 2,100 members. On paper, that's a community. In reality, the last member post was three weeks ago, the coach posts workout tips that get 4–5 likes, and nobody talks to each other. The group exists; the community doesn't.
What's working: The coach has expertise people want and an audience to recruit from. The group has critical mass in raw numbers. The topic (fitness) naturally supports ongoing conversation — it's not a one-time-interest subject.
What's broken: Nearly every community fundamental. There was no founding-member phase — the group opened to everyone at once, so no core culture formed. There's no onboarding: new members arrive, see silence, and leave (or stay silent). There are no rituals — no weekly thread, no check-in, no recurring reason to show up. The coach broadcasts instead of facilitating; members are an audience, not participants. There are no guidelines, so the few posts that appear are random self-promotion. And there's no path to value — free forever, no offer, no reason for the coach to invest more energy.
The fix, in course order: Module 1 — redefine the community's promise: not "fitness tips" (Instagram already does that) but "accountability for busy parents doing home workouts" — a specific transformation. Module 3 — close the group and relaunch with 30 founding members invited personally, with a clear charter. Module 4 — install two weekly rituals: a Monday goal-setting thread and a Friday wins thread, both facilitated (not broadcast) by the coach. Module 5 — write five simple rules, pin them, enforce them visibly once so everyone sees the standard. Module 6 — grow by invitation from engaged members, not mass adds. Within 90 days, 200 active members in a relaunched group would outperform 2,100 silent ones — and the coach would finally have an asset instead of a graveyard.
