Module 4: Crush — Splinter It
Crushing is the extraction pass: you take the week's bedrock and break it into pebbles — clips, cards, threads, tips. One hour, one bedrock, a week of posts. This module teaches the extraction pass, the pebble formats, and the 1-to-12 rule.

The extraction pass
Crushing starts with a second encounter with your bedrock — this time with a notebook and a hunter's mindset. Watch the video, reread the article, or replay the episode, and mark every extractable moment: a timestamp where you told a story, a sentence quotable enough for a card, a number surprising enough to stop a scroll, a tip concrete enough to stand alone. Don't judge yet; collect. Most creators are shocked at how much is hiding in a bedrock they thought was "just one video."
Then turn the marks into a pebble list: a numbered list of 12+ candidate pebbles, each one line — "clip: the float-test story (4:12–4:50)", "card: 'discounts train customers to wait'", "thread: the 3 feeding ratios."
The pebble list is the bridge between one big thing and a week of small things — never skip writing it down.
Crush with a timer, not a mood. Give the extraction pass a hard 30 minutes: when the timer rings, you work with the pebble list you have. Open-ended crushing expands to fill the afternoon and produces diminishing returns — pebble 14 is never as good as pebble 4. Constraints force choices, and choices force quality. Twelve strong pebbles beat twenty thin ones every time.
Pebble formats: match the platform
A pebble isn't a shrunken bedrock — it's a native citizen of its platform. Learn the five workhorse formats. Vertical clips (15–60 seconds): one moment, captioned, for short-video feeds. Quote cards: one striking line on a clean background, for image feeds and stories. Threads: one idea expanded into 5–10 short posts, for text platforms. Carousels: one tip per slide, for swipeable feeds. Tip posts: one standalone lesson in plain text, for anywhere.
Match format to platform deliberately: vertical clips for TikTok, Reels, and Shorts; cards and carousels for Instagram and LinkedIn; threads for X; tip posts for Facebook and LinkedIn. The same idea wears different clothes on different platforms — a 40-second clip and a 7-slide carousel can carry the identical lesson to two audiences that never overlap. That's the whole efficiency of the loop: one idea, many outfits, zero extra thinking.
Learn one new pebble format per month, not all five at once. Master vertical clips in month one — get genuinely good at them — then add quote cards in month two. Each format has its own craft (clip pacing, card typography, thread rhythm), and spreading yourself across all five produces five mediocre formats. Depth beats breadth until every format you touch looks intentional.

The 1-to-12 rule
Here's your weekly target: twelve pebbles from every bedrock. Not because twelve is magic, but because a concrete number forces a real extraction pass. Three pebbles means you skimmed; twelve means you hunted. A typical split: four vertical clips, three quote cards, two carousels, two tip posts, one thread. Adjust the mix to your platforms, but hold the total. If a bedrock genuinely can't yield twelve, that's feedback — it wasn't dense enough, and next week's gets a story, a number, and an opinion packed in.
Quality bar for every pebble: it must stand completely alone. Someone who never sees the bedrock should get full value from the pebble — a pebble that only makes sense with context is a trailer, not content. If a pebble needs the bedrock to land, it goes back for a rewrite, not out the door. Run the checklist below on every crush session until it's muscle memory.
When a bedrock yields more than twelve pebbles, bank the extras — don't publish them all. A surplus week is a gift to a future thin week: save the extra pebbles in a "bank" folder and scatter them when a bedrock underperforms or life intervenes. The bank is what makes the system antifragile. Aim to keep 5–10 banked pebbles at all times; it's your content emergency fund.
