Glossary: Build Better Habits
Every key term from the course, in plain English. When a lesson says a word you don't know, it lives here.
- The Values Filter
- Run every decision through your three core values before saying yes. If an opportunity serves none of your three, it costs you the time those values need — so it's a no, no matter how shiny it looks.
- The Sensory Audit
- A weekly review of what your five senses are absorbing: what you taste, touch, smell, hear, and see. Whatever fills your senses fills your state — the audit finds the leaks.
- The Gratitude Loop
- Gratitude builds self-belief, self-belief deepens gratitude, and the cycle sustains your habits. Break the loop and motivation has to carry the load alone — which is why it never does.
- Core values
- Your three non-negotiable words — the qualities you want your life to stand for. Not goals you achieve once, but directions you face every day.
- The five pillars
- This course's system: values, purpose, process, inputs, and belief. Every habit you ever build will rest on one of these five — most broken habits are missing at least one.
- Anchor habit
- One small, non-negotiable action that holds the rest of your routine in place. When the day falls apart, the anchor is the one thing you still do.
- Trigger
- An existing moment in your day that you attach a new habit to. Coffee brewing means three gratitudes. Shoes coming off means phone on the charger.
- Input curation
- Choosing what enters your senses on purpose — the accounts, sounds, spaces, and conversations you allow in. You curate your feed; curate the rest of your inputs too.
- The five daily choices
- Thoughts, words, places, habits, people — the five things you choose every day, consciously or not, that shape who you're becoming.
- Natural profile
- Your default way of operating: Leader (organizes people), Maker (builds things), Creator (imagines things), Guide (develops people). Habits stick faster when they match your profile.
- Relapse rule
- The agreement you make with yourself before you ever slip: one miss is a data point, two misses is a signal. Never miss twice — and never use a miss as a verdict on who you are.
- Intention
- A one-line statement of what a part of your day is for. "This morning is for my values." Intentions give routine a reason, which is what turns repetition into ritual.
- Negativity block
- Any input, person, or pattern that consistently drains your state. Found with the Sensory Audit, handled with boundaries — reduced, replaced, or removed.
- Self-belief
- The quiet confidence that you can do what you say you'll do. Built by evidence — every kept promise to yourself, no matter how small, is a deposit.
