Module 2: The Five Kinds of Gives
Giving isn't one thing. There are five distinct kinds of gives, and the strongest accounts mix them. Find the ones that fit your personality and your audience.

Teach: the fastest trust-builder
Teaching is the highest-leverage give for most businesses: show people how to do something useful, free, in under a minute. A plumber films a 30-second fix for a running toilet. A bookkeeper explains the one receipt habit that saves hours at tax time. A bakery shows why room-temperature eggs make better cake.
Teaching builds trust faster than anything else because it's proof of competence in public. Every tutorial quietly says "I know this craft cold" — and when the viewer eventually needs the paid version, you're the obvious choice. The fear is always "if I give it away, nobody will pay." In practice, the opposite happens: free teaching creates buyers, because most people would rather pay an expert than do it themselves.
Start with the questions customers already ask you. Each one is a post waiting to happen — and each answer is a deposit.

Entertain: the attention magnet
Not every give has to be educational. Entertainment — humor, stories, personality, a well-told day-in-the-life — is a legitimate deposit. People follow accounts that make their scroll more enjoyable, and enjoyment is value.
The key is that the entertainment should still be yours: rooted in your world, your work, your customers. A roofer lip-syncing a trending sound while showing a satisfying before-and-after is entertaining and on-brand. Random memes with no connection to the business are just noise — they may get likes, but they build an audience that will never buy.
You don't need to be a comedian. Honest, specific, human moments outperform polished comedy: the delivery that went wrong, the customer's reaction, the satisfying process video. Let people see the humans behind the business. A good rule: if it made you smile while filming it, it will probably make a stranger smile while scrolling.
Inspire and connect: the loyalty builders
Two quieter gives build the deepest loyalty. Inspiration — your story, your mission, the transformation you create for customers — gives people a reason to root for you. Connection — replying to comments like a human, featuring customers, asking real questions — turns followers into community.
Inspiration works because people buy from businesses they feel something toward. Share the why behind the work: why you started, who you're trying to help, what a good week looks like. One honest origin story outperforms a month of product shots.
Connection is the cheapest give there is: answer every comment in the first hour, ask follow-up questions, remember names. The algorithm notices, but more importantly, the humans do.
Equip: the save-and-share give
The fifth kind of give is the most practical: equip your audience with something they keep. Checklists, templates, calculators, resource lists, scripts — anything they can save, screenshot, or forward to a friend. Equips earn the two most valuable signals on social: saves and shares.
An equip post does the work once and pays forever. A moving company's "room-by-room packing checklist" gets saved thousands of times and shared in every local moms' group. A realtor's "10 questions to ask at an open house" becomes the thing people send their friends. Each save is a deposit that keeps earning interest.
Make equips specific and immediately usable. "10 tax tips" is forgettable; "the 6 receipts freelancers always forget to keep" gets saved. Specificity is what makes someone tap the bookmark icon. And every save puts your account in front of that person's friends when the platform suggests "posts like one you saved."
