You're spending money on marketing and guessing what's working. That ends now. In seven modules you'll wire up GA4 and Search Console correctly, tag every campaign, track real conversions — calls, forms, sales — and build a one-page monthly report that tells you exactly where the next dollar goes.

What you'll learn

  • Pick the handful of numbers that actually drive decisions — and learn to ignore everything else.
  • Install and configure GA4 correctly so it answers the one question that matters: what are visitors doing on my site.
  • Tag every campaign link with UTMs so you know exactly which email, post, or ad produced each visitor.
  • Build a one-page monthly report in a spreadsheet — and learn to read it without fooling yourself.

Module 1: Decide what to measure — Analytics & Measurement

Module 1

Module 1: Decide what to measure

Analytics fails when you measure everything and understand nothing. This module narrows your world to the handful of numbers that drive decisions.

Module 2: Google Analytics 4 — setup and basics — Analytics & Measurement

Module 2

Module 2: Google Analytics 4 — setup and basics

GA4 is free and, once configured, answers "what are visitors doing on my site." This module gets it installed correctly and teaches the three reports you'll actually use.

Module 3: Google Search Console — Analytics & Measurement

Module 3

Module 3: Google Search Console

Search Console shows you exactly how Google sees your site and which searches bring you clicks. It's free, it's authoritative, and most businesses never open it.

Module 4

Module 4: UTM tracking for every campaign

UTMs are the free, universal way to label your links so analytics tells you exactly which email, post, or ad produced each visitor. Ten minutes to learn, useful forever.

Module 5: Tracking calls, forms, and real conversions — Analytics & Measurement

Module 5

Module 5: Tracking calls, forms, and real conversions

Traffic without conversion tracking is just curiosity. This module wires up the events from your Module 1 list so GA4 reports revenue actions, not just visits.

Module 6: The one-page monthly report — Analytics & Measurement

Module 6

Module 6: The one-page monthly report

All this instrumentation pays off in a single page you (or your team) actually read. This module builds it in a spreadsheet in under an hour.

Teardown: the plumber spending $2,000 a month blind

A local plumbing company runs Google Ads at about $2,000 a month. The owner checks the Ads dashboard weekly, feels good when clicks go up, and has kept the campaign running for two years. On the surface, this looks like a business doing marketing right — consistent spend, attention to the dashboard, longevity.

What's working: They're actually spending and paying attention, which puts them ahead of most local businesses. They have a website with a phone number on it. They haven't quit after month one, so the data history exists.

What's broken: Almost everything that matters. There is no call tracking — the primary conversion (a phone call) is invisible, so the owner is optimizing for clicks, not customers. No UTMs on the ads, so they can't tell which keywords or ad groups produce calls versus tire-kickers. The "conversions" column in Google Ads counts page views, which means the algorithm is optimizing for the wrong thing entirely. And the monthly "report" is a screenshot of clicks and impressions — weather, not decisions.

The fix, in course order: Module 1 first — define the conversion (a phone call lasting over 60 seconds, plus quote form submissions). Module 5 — install call tracking so every call is logged with its source keyword. Module 4 — UTM-tag every ad so the source survives the click. Then Module 6's one-page report: spend, calls, cost per call, by campaign. Within a month, this owner would likely discover that half the budget produces no calls — and reallocate it to what does. That's the difference between spending $2,000 and investing it.
