Hook Mastery

Most creators guess at their opening line and hope the video survives. By the end of this course you'll have a repeatable hook-writing process — the First Five, the Triple Lock, the Hook Bench — so every video you post opens with a line engineered to stop the scroll.

Three seconds. That's the entire audition. In six modules you'll go from guessing at opening lines to a repeatable hook-writing process — the First Five, the Triple Lock, the Hook Bench — so every video opens with a line built to stop the scroll. Stop hoping the feed notices you. Start writing hooks it can't ignore.

What you’ll learn

  • Write a working hook in under five minutes using the 5-step hook process
  • Run any idea through the Triple Lock — clarity, context, curiosity — and fix the lock that's broken
  • Deliver hooks three ways: in your voice, in on-screen text, and in the caption
  • Build a personal Vault of proven hook templates you can adapt to any topic

Is this for me?

Who is this course for?

Anyone making short video who suspects their ideas are better than their views. You don't need an audience — hooks are the skill that builds one. If your videos die in the first three seconds, this is your course.

What do I need before starting?

Nothing but something to write with. No filming required, no editing software, no followers. This course is about the words before the camera rolls — the cheapest, highest-leverage skill in short-form video.

How long does it take?

Six modules, about 30–45 minutes each of learning. Most people finish in two weeks — and the real coursework is the Hook Bench reps: five hooks written for every video you post.

Module 0

Module 0: Start here

What this course is, how to use it, and what you'll walk away with: a repeatable hook-writing process, not a bag of tricks. Ten minutes now saves hours later.

Module 1: The First Five — Hook Mastery

Module 1

Module 1: The First Five

Your video is decided in the first five words. This module teaches the 4-point checklist every winning hook passes — and shows you exactly why most hooks fail before the viewer even has a thought.

Module 2: Why Hooks Decide Everything — Hook Mastery

Module 2

Module 2: Why Hooks Decide Everything

The feed gives you three seconds and a cold viewer gives you even less. This module breaks down the scroll test, what actually happens in a viewer's thumb, and why the hook — not the idea, not the edit — is the highest-leverage skill in short-form video.

Module 3: The Triple Lock — Hook Mastery

Module 3

Module 3: The Triple Lock

Every hook that works has three locks engaged: clarity, context, curiosity. This module teaches you to run any idea through all three — and to diagnose exactly which lock is broken when a hook flops.

Module 4: Three Ways to Deliver — Hook Mastery

Module 4

Module 4: Three Ways to Deliver

A great hook can arrive three ways: in your voice, in on-screen text, or in the caption. This module teaches you to pick the right delivery for each video — and how to layer all three without repeating yourself.

Start module →
Module 5: The Hook Bench — Hook Mastery

Module 5

Module 5: The Hook Bench

Write five, keep one. This module is the practice reps: the Hook Bench method for generating five hooks per video, how to score them and pick the winner, and the Two-Day Check that catches weak hooks before you ever film.

Start module →
Module 6: The Vault — Hook Mastery

Module 6

Module 6: The Vault

Stop starting from a blank page. This module teaches you to build your Vault — a personal collection of proven hook templates — and how to adapt any template to a new topic without it ever feeling copied.

Choose your track

Not everyone needs the same path. Pick the one that fits where you are.

Beginner track

Modules 0–2: orientation, the First Five, and why hooks decide everything. Write your first ten hooks on the Bench before touching delivery formats — if your first five words aren't working, nothing downstream matters yet.

Steady track

All modules in order, one per week. Run one Hook Bench session per video you post, grow your Vault by three templates a month, and Two-Day Check everything before filming. Slow is smooth, smooth is fast.

Volume track

All modules, then the Vault at full speed: five hooks per video, daily posting, every hook scored and Two-Day Checked. Volume is where the Vault compounds — thirty days of reps turns the process into instinct.

Teardown: one weak hook, one strong hook

The weak hook: "Hey guys, so today I wanted to talk a little bit about something I've been thinking about when it comes to saving money." Twenty-two words — and not a single lock engaged. Run it through the Triple Lock: clarity? The viewer has no idea what the video is about. Context? No idea who it's for or why it matters to them. Curiosity? Nothing unanswered — it's all throat-clearing. A cold viewer is gone by word six, and the video never had a chance.

The strong hook: "Your bank is stealing from you (legally)." Seven words, all three locks engaged. Clarity: it's about your bank and your money — instant. Context: it's for anyone with a savings account, which is nearly everyone watching. Curiosity: how is it legal? The parenthetical does the heavy lifting — it answers the objection "that can't be true" before the viewer can raise it, which opens the gap wider instead of closing it.

Now run the First Five check on both. The weak hook's first five words — "Hey guys, so today I" — could open literally any video on the platform. They carry zero information and zero tension. The strong hook's first five — "Your bank is stealing from" — already have stakes (your money), a villain (your bank), and a gap (stealing how?). The scroll test is over before the sentence ends.

What most people would get wrong: they'd try to fix the weak hook by making it prettier — better lighting, a jump cut, captions. None of that matters. The problem is the words, and words are free to fix. This is Module 1's whole point: the 4-point checklist would have caught this hook in ten seconds, before a single frame was filmed.

The lesson: seven words beat twenty-two because they do three jobs at once. Clarity tells the viewer what this is. Context tells them it's for them. Curiosity makes leaving feel like missing out. That's the Triple Lock — and once you can see it, you can't unsee it in every video that wins.
